1 1/2" styrofoam ball

1 slice white bread

Aleene's Gold Bottle Tacky Glue

Aleene's Premium Coat Acrylics in black and green

Ultra fine glitter in gold

1" pin back

Round tooth picks

Aleene's Gloss Varnish

Drinking straw

Waxed paper

Zip top plastic bag

Craft sticks

  1. Cut styrofoam ball in half. Set one half aside. Cut the top 1/3 off of remaining half, discard.

  2. Remove crust from bread; discard. Tear bread into small pieces and place in disposable container.

  3. Add about 1 tablespoon of glue to bread. Mix with a craft stick until well blended. Remove about a tablespoon of mixture, and hold in your hand.

  4. Add a few drops of green paint to mixture in your hand. Knead with your fingers until all paint is incorporated and mixture has the consistency of a soft clay. Place green clay in a zip top plastic bag; seal; set aside.

  5. Remove another tablespoon of mixture. Do not add any paint. Knead to form clay. Pat with fingers onto waxed paper to about 1/16" thick. With drinking straw, press end into clay to form about three dozen "coins". Do not remove cut pieces. Leave to dry as is.

  6. Add a few drops of black paint to remaining bread-glue mixture. Knead in same manner as above. When clay texture is reached, pinch off two balls about 1/4" diameter; set aside. Press remaining flat to about 1/8" thick.

  7. Lay over styrofoam and press in place, covering entire shape, and smoothing with fingers.

  8. Add balls to bottom on each side for feet. Set aside to dry.

  9. With green clay, pinch off a ball about 1/8" diameter. Roll into a snake and trim end straight. Curve into a "c" shape for shamrock stem.

  10. Pinch four 1/4" balls of clay and lay on top of stem piece. Gently press with your finger to form tear drop shapes.

  11. With toothpick, make an indentation in each leaf at the outer edge. Press flat with your finger. This will make the heart shaped leaves.

  12. With toothpick, make "v" shaped markings on each leaf. Set aside to dry.

  13. Once all pieces have dried, apply a small amount of glue to the top area of black pot. Add "coins" in a random pattern, overlapping and stacking to resemble a "pot of gold". Let dry.

  14. Apply a thin coat of glue to "coins". Sprinkle with ultra fine gold glitter; tap off excess.

  15. Glue shamrock to center front of pot.

  16. Glue pin back to center top of pot on back. Let all glue dry completely.

  17. Apply a coat of gloss varnish to pot and shamrock; let dry.
