Springtime Plant Pokes

Aleene's Shrink-it Plastic in Opaque

Fine sand paper

Colored pencils

Fine tip permanent marker in black


Exacto knife

Aleene's Baking Board or cookie sheet

Baby powder

Patterns (below)

Bamboo skewers

Aleene's Thick Designer Tacky Glue, or hot glue


  1. Sand Shrink-it sheets on one side, in both horizontal and vertical directions.

  2. Lay Shrink-it over pattern and trace with permanent marker.

  3. Color with pencils as desired.

  4. Cut out pieces with scissors. An exacto knife can be used to cut out centers of fairie wings, if desired. Decorative hole punches may also be used.

  5. Pre-heat oven to 275.

  6. Sprinkle baby powder on baking board or cookie sheet.

  7. Lay cut outs on sheet.

  8. Place in oven and leave until completely shrunk and flat. Be patient! Do not remove from oven until completely flat.

  9. Let cool completely.

  10. Dust off baby powder with a soft towel.

  11. If desired, at this time add glitter, or other embelishments.(Like ultra fine glitter to fairie's wings, etc.)

  12. Lay cut outs face down on work surface.

  13. Apply glue to center back of each cut out.

  14. Lay flat end of bambo skewer in glue. Let dry completely.

  15. Insert skewer into plant soil, placing so skewer is hidden behind leaves or flowers.

These pokes are so easy to make. The only design limits are your own imagination! How about a banner wishing "Happy Birthday", or proclaiming "I love you" to enhance a special bouquet? How many designs can YOU think of?

As always, to print these patterns in correct size, you must have your display set to the Windows95 default setting of 96 ppi (pixels per inch).
